Game Reviews - Counter Strike
May 7th, 2007 | by LocalTech |Well I thought I’d add a new category this week just to spice my blog up a little bit. So I’ve added a Game Review category and seeing as Im about to go to the Cybercafe in an hours time to go play Counter Strike, I thought it would be an appropriate topic to talk about today. So I’m sure many of the ‘gamers’ around the world have heard of Counter Strike. So I’m sorry if I write anything incorrect, because I’m not 100% sure about this as I’m actually quite new to the game. So here goes nothing.
Game: Counter Strike
Well I have always heard of the infamous Counter Strike whenever I went to any cyber cafe, and trust me I’ve been to quite a few (even in different countries). But I guess I never really got into back then because I never really liked the graphics ( I used to feel woozy when I played Duke Nukem ). So I was pretty much a realistic junkie, everything I played had to be quite realistic. However over the past 2 months, because there is not much I can do during the week because of work, I would go out with quite a large number of friends to one of the local cybercafes after work - To play Counter Strike.
Counter Strike also known as ‘CS’ for the fanatics/addicts is a FPS (First Person Shooter) game. Basically the aim of the game is to kill the oposing teams. So there are basically only two teams available. There are the evil Terrorist, who seem to always want to bomb places, keep hostages or just kill the good guys and then there is the Counter-Terrorist teams who are there to stop the terrorist from achieving the goals. So it’s pretty much your standard FPS game. Good vs Evil, Younger brother vs Older Sister, Guys vs Girls, Osama Bin-Ladin vs George Bush! You know the drill…
Anyway, after playing it for a couple of months I actually consider my self as a competitor amongst my friends who have been playing this game for years! Basically after playing soo many realistic games and then reverting back the the stone age, you tend to get good quite fast. The game it self is actually quite a good way of releasing stress I guess. Because unlike the realistic games where you have to stratergize and put the speaker soo loud so you can hear the footsteps of the opposing player just to find out where they are (which just adds more stress after you realise they’re behind you and kill you), Counter Strike is just a mean killing machine. You just run around blasting the shit out of each other for endless hours with the speakers just there for sound effects.
There are quite a few maps on Counter Strike but I would say my favorite would be de_dust. Basically this stage is about the terrorist who have a goal to plant a C4 in an allocated site, and the Counter-Terrorist trying to stop them. I love this stage because you can use stratergy, but it’s more like go with the flow. Chuck a granade here, toss a flashbang there, snipe the camping Counter-Terrorist or just go on a Kamikazee war path! The stage is of medium size but the closer then enemy and you are, the more likely that there’s going to be a massacre of clans - So expect a blood bath at least twice!
I guess that every game has it’s downside so just to list a couple, as you know it’s really unrealistic however later versions have made the graphics more believable so I guess it’s okay. But the worst thing I hate about the game is when those stupid “NATA” a.k.a Cheaters constantly use cheats while they’re playing. I mean what satisfaction do you get out of cheating on a LAN based game?! I would maybe understand a little if there was a ranking system like America’s Army where the more kills you get, the higher your rank. But this one has nothing, zip, nada and here we see all these nata’s using their cheats for unlimited ammo, extra money, body shaking soo much so you wont get shot, and god knows what else! I don’t mind if they use sniper all the time although it gets kinda boring after a while, but cheaters - You just plain suck.
Well I know this review is kinda boring, but it’s a first time thing - I can only get better (I hope).
So here’s my ratings for Counter Strike.
Graphics: 5/10
Game Play: 7/10
Entertainment: 9/10
Addictive: 7/10
Overall: 7/10

I played Counter Strike once, but for the life of me I can’t remember where, or with whom!
It’s an amazing game - it must be - since many people are still playing it years later.
