Old Skype on Windows 8
Since the launch of Windows 8, I have been nothing but annoyed at the fact that you need to use the Metro Skype version that requires a full screen to use. It’s a chat application, and I rather not have it take up a whole screen just to be able to talk to someone.
Anyway, I found a way around it and that is to download the full version of Skype and install it.
You can download the file here:
I don’t really know if this is necessary or not, but I changed the compatibility to Windows 7 before running the installation. So in case you get an error that you would when you run the normal install of Skype on Windows 8 saying to install it from the Store, do this:
Right Click on SkypeSetupFull.exe -> Properties
Click on the Compatibility tab
Under “Compatibility Mode”, check the “Run this program in compatibility mode for:” and select Windows 7
After that, run the installation and you should be fine.
You can also run this Skype installation for the desktop version I have found:
If you get lost in the link, I have provided a copy I downloaded from them.
