Facebook Contact Number – How to hide it!

Alright, so today I saw one of my friends post the following status:

PHONE NUMBERS OF ALL are now on Facebook!
Go to the top right of the screen, click on Account, then click on Edit Friends, go left on the screen and click on Contacts. All phone numbers are published.

Please re-post this on your Status, so your friends can remove their numbers and thus prevent abuse!

Alright, now before people all go crazy over this, know that you can actually change your privacy settings and hide your phone number from being displayed on that list.

All you need to do is:

  1. Go to Accounts
  2. Click on Privacy Preferences
  3. Click on Customize Settings
  4. Scroll down to Contact Information and change who is able to view your contact details.
    - You can limit it to specific people, lists or no one at all.

That's all you need to do.

You can also change a number of other privacy options here as well.

Hope this helps!

Invite users to Google Plus using Link!

Well, you want one of your friends to join Google Plus, but don't really know their email address? That's fine, because with the latest feature from Google, you can now allow your friend to join Google Plus by simple clicking on a link!

At the moment - as they are testing this phase - a maximum of 150 users can sign up via your invite. So be sure to send it to users you think would truly benefit from the use of Google Plus.

For those of you who are not sure where your link is, I've provided a little image for you find yours:

Google Plus: Right Sidebar

Click on the Invite Friends button on your right sidebar.

Google Plus: Invite Options

You have an option to invite by e-mail or sharing a link. Each user will have their own unique link address.

Once a user clicks on that link, they will be brought to the Google Plus website, where they will be given the option to sign up for Google Plus from an invite by you!

It's that simple.

Google Plus currently has over 25 million users and is still growing - will it be a competitor with Facebook in the near future?

Google Music Beta – Beta Invites

If you have not noticed by now, Google has allowed users that are currently using the Music Beta by Google to send out two invites!

The only problem is that users still have to be from the United States.

Google Music: Beta Invites

If you are unsure as to where you can send invites from, it is located on the top left of your Music Beta page, above My Library.

Once you click on that, it will give you a pop up box where you can type in the email address of the user you wish to send an invite to.

Google Music: Invites

As of yet, you can only send out a maximum of two invites. This basically means that Google will now be moving towards releasing the full version just like Google Plus. At least I think.

If you are not familiar with Music Beta by Google, you can read about it here.

Android App – Dolphin Browser HD

I'm sure most people have been on the lookout for a new browser since the one that comes with Android isn't really the greatest. Well look no further because I have found it!

The Android app is called Dolphin Browser HD.

There are many features on this browser that sets it apart from your default browser - here are some of them:

Add-on - Do customize your own browser, and make your browser look and function the way you want. Beef up your Dolphin by installing your favorite Add-ons.

Gestures - Simplify the way you navigate the mobile web. Open any of your favorite websites with just the touch of your fingertip in lightning speed.

Webzine - Bring out the beauty of the web and with Dolphin Webzine users can experience the web like never before.

Multi-touch Pinch Zoom - Find it hard to read webpages in desktop view? Dolphin Multi-Touch Zoom solves that problem. Pinch your fingers on the screen and make the text bigger or smaller.

Tabbed browsing - Real tabbed browsing. Feel like you are on a desktop. Add tabs within Dolphin just like you would on a desktop.

Sidebar - With Dolphin, you can swipe to the right side to use Tool Bar to quickly launch additional features, like full screen or your favorite Add-ons. Swipe to the left side to browse your bookmark list andfolders.

SpeedDial - Put favorite sites on Speed Dial. Stop looking around in your bookmarks. Forget about typing out long URL. Just put your favorite sites on Speed Dial.

Smart Address Bar - Smart and effortless browsing by auto-completing URL and context menus When you type the first few characters of a URL, Dolphin auto-complete the URL by displaying all results from both bookmarked items and your browsing history.

Bookmark Folder - Dolphin Bookmark Folder now live on your mobile phone Bookmark folder is not just a luxury you can get on your desktop. It’s now available on your mobile phone too. Organize yourbookmarks into folders on your mobile phone.

User Agent - Switch between desktop view and mobile view according to your needs Need to view the full site of facebook sometimes on mobile? Dolphin helps you do that.

Colorful theme pack - Decorate your own browser with the color you want.

Your Languages supported - 16 languages supported, eliminate the strangeness on other languages.

Browser Speed Test

The one key feature that I like about it would be Gestures. Gestures allow you to draw a symbol on your screen and it will run a command that was preset for that specific gesture. It makes browsing much easier and faster without the hassle of having to look for certain keys or retying.

Unlike the default browser, you are able to change the look and feel of this browser to suit your style as well. The application also comes with a vast list of add-ons you are able to install to make the browser more unique to your preferences.

Dolphin Browser HD also displays your feeds such as Facebook and Twitter status in a much more appealing way. Everything about the application is designed perfectly and not only is it eye candy, but its performance exceeds the default browser as well. Although it is not as fast as the Fennec Alpha, it does have some features that make your browsing experience far more enjoyable.

If you would like to download the application, click on one of the following link(s):

Facebook Group Video Chat

I'm quite surprised that this feature was overlooked. Though their recent screw up with Facebook Chat has probably blinded everyone with rage, thus no one has seen or even heard about this new app on Facebook called "Social Hangouts."

Alongside Facebook's recent release of video chat, an app developed by Social Hangouts released a self named app that works within Facebook, that allows you to have group video chats with your friends on Facebook. Social Hangouts allows up to 20 users to join in on the group video chat and seems to be Facebook's way of keeping the competition alive with Google Plus.

Music Beta by Google

Well now that I'm living in the States, I seem to have the ability to sign up for all sorts of Beta programs such as Music Beta by Google.

Upload your personal music collection to listen anywhere, keep everything in sync, and forget the hassle of cables and files.

The thing about Music Beta by Google is that it is currently in an 'invite only' stage. I only had to wait for about a week before I received my invite to join the program. So far, I've got nothing but good things to say about the application as it fits my needs perfectly!

I am currently using a HTC Thunderbolt with a 32GB memory on it, though I have over 5000 songs on my desktop and rather not clog up my phone with thousands of tracks. So what do I do? I upload them all onto the 'cloud' and stream my music online via Music Beta's Android application. The great thing about this application is that caching is used on Android so that recently played music becomes available offline as well.

Another great feature about Music Beta is that it has an option called "Make instant mix." What you do is, you select a song first, then you click on "Make instant mix" and Google will then analyze all the songs on your library and create a playlist with 25 songs that are similar to the one you are currently listening to. So far I've been quite impressed with the selections it makes for me regardless if it is for RnB, House, Electro or even Rock.

Limitations:

  • You are not able to select which songs specifically you want to upload manually
  • You are only able to upload up to 20,000 songs
  • You can't edit song info via Android App (though we're still in Beta so that might change)
  • Syncs with a maximum of 8 devices
  • Only available in the United States
  • You can only upload songs via Music Manager software

Considering those limitations, it is still better than using iTunes where you would have to connect your device to your PC to sync with the application. With this, you can sync it anytime you have access to the internet - which is most smartphone cases is all the time.
The setup phase of this program was quite simple - Look at the installation steps below.

Integrate Facebook and Twitter into Google+

Not long ago, I wrote an article about integrating Facebook and Twitter into Google+. However it seems there is another extension on Google Chrome which does the same thing as well, but has a much cleaner look.

The extension is called Start G+ and is only available on Google Chrome at the moment. Not only does this extension add your Facebook and Twitter stream onto your Google+ page; it also adds an extra item on the toolbar which displays your Gmail list and allows you to import your albums from Facebook onto Google Plus. It's the perfect tool for those of you who would like to stream everything in one easy place without the hassle of opening 3-4 different tabs.

Here is a step by step guide on installing the extension and importing your albums over too.

Start Google Plus

  1. Go to the following website:
    http://startgoogleplus.com
  2. Follow the step by step instructions:
  • Get the Google Chrome Extension (Download Extension)
  • Sign in with your Google+ account
  • Sign in with your Facebook account
  • Click on "Facebook to Google+" on step 3

After following these two steps, it will show you a pop-up message advising you that you are about to send photos from Facebook to Google Plus. You will have the option of syncing all albums or send a specific album over. After you have selected your option, click on Next Step.

If you chose "Sync all my albums," proceed to click "Okay, Sync" once the application has finished analyzing your albums. If you chose "Send an individual album," select which album you would like to import and click "Okay, Import Album."

After this, the extension will begin importing your albums over to Google Plus, one at a time.

Next steps is to integrate Facebook and Twitter into your Google+ stream.

If you have not already done so, download and install the Google Chrome extension here.

After you have installed it, go to your Google+ account and you will notice that the toolbar at the top has changed slightly.

Google Plus Toolbar

On the left hand side of the toolbar, you'll notice that there is now a new tab called "Gmail." This item will be a drop down menu which will display any new emails you have in your Gmail account.

On the right hand side, you'll notice that there are three new tabs in there. On the far right is the Start G+ extension tab; this tab allows you to enable/disable the features that come with the extension. Next to it is the Facebook and Twitter tabs where you will be able to authenticate your accounts and will display your notifications. When you first install the extension, you will need to click on each of those and login to your account to authenticate the extension.

Once you have completed the authentication process, give it about 5-10 minutes, then refresh your Google+ page and you will notice in your stream that your Twitter and Facebook streams have been integrated with your Google+ streams.

Update Status

You will now be able to update your Twitter, Facebook and Google+ all in one place as well. As you can see at the image on the right, you will have two new toggle buttons that you can select if you would like to display the update on Facebook and Twitter.

All in all, this was a very well thought out extension and would be very useful to those users who are sick of having to go to different tabs just to keep in touch with your friends and family.

Please do leave a comment on what you think of this extension as well.

How to integrate Facebook and Twitter into Google Plus

So shortly after writing my last post on updating your Facebook status from Google+, I came across another handy tool which integrates both Facebook and Twitter into your Google Plus account!

In order to do this, you would need either Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox or Internet Explorer.

They're both quite simple to install add-ons and integrate with Google+ seamlessly.

First we'll start with Google+ Tweet

  • Download the add-on here.
  • Install the add-on
  • Restart your web browser
  • Login to Google Plus
  • Click on the Twitter icon next to the Google+ logo at the top
  • Click on the "Sign in with Twitter" button
  • Login with your Twitter credentials and click Authorize App
  • Login to Google+ again and click on the Twitter icon
  • Click on the Go button under the "Sign in with Twitter" button

Then you're done. You will now see all your Twitter streams posted in here as well!
Next up is Google+ Facebook

  • Download the add-on here
  • Install the add-on and restart your browser after that
  • Login to Google+
  • Click on the Facebook icon next to the Google+ logo at the top
  • Click on the Connect with Facebook button
  • Login with your Facebook credentials and click on "Allow"
  • Refresh your Google+ page and click on the Facebook icon again

There you have it! Facebook has now been integrated into Google+ as well!
