Facebook Contact Number – How to hide it!
Alright, so today I saw one of my friends post the following status:
PHONE NUMBERS OF ALL are now on Facebook!
Go to the top right of the screen, click on Account, then click on Edit Friends, go left on the screen and click on Contacts. All phone numbers are published. Please re-post this on your Status, so your friends can remove their numbers and thus prevent abuse!
Alright, now before people all go crazy over this, know that you can actually change your privacy settings and hide your phone number from being displayed on that list.
All you need to do is:
- Go to Accounts
- Click on Privacy Preferences
- Click on Customize Settings
- Scroll down to Contact Information and change who is able to view your contact details.
- You can limit it to specific people, lists or no one at all.
That's all you need to do.
You can also change a number of other privacy options here as well.
Hope this helps!
Facebook – Block Events and App Invites from Specific People
Got some of those friends who are constantly inviting you to things you're not really interested in on Facebook? Well look no further... You can now block invites for apps and events from specific users easily.
All you have to do is the following:
- Go to your Accounts drop down on the top right
- Click on Privacy Settings
- Click on Edit your list under Block List
- In here, you will see options to block users totally or app and event invites from specific users.
Once you have added their names to the list, you will no longer receive invites from them depending on which items you choose.
Invite users to Google Plus using Link!
Well, you want one of your friends to join Google Plus, but don't really know their email address? That's fine, because with the latest feature from Google, you can now allow your friend to join Google Plus by simple clicking on a link!
At the moment - as they are testing this phase - a maximum of 150 users can sign up via your invite. So be sure to send it to users you think would truly benefit from the use of Google Plus.
For those of you who are not sure where your link is, I've provided a little image for you find yours:
Click on the Invite Friends button on your right sidebar.
You have an option to invite by e-mail or sharing a link. Each user will have their own unique link address.
Once a user clicks on that link, they will be brought to the Google Plus website, where they will be given the option to sign up for Google Plus from an invite by you!
It's that simple.
Google Plus currently has over 25 million users and is still growing - will it be a competitor with Facebook in the near future?
Facebook Group Video Chat
I'm quite surprised that this feature was overlooked. Though their recent screw up with Facebook Chat has probably blinded everyone with rage, thus no one has seen or even heard about this new app on Facebook called "Social Hangouts."
Alongside Facebook's recent release of video chat, an app developed by Social Hangouts released a self named app that works within Facebook, that allows you to have group video chats with your friends on Facebook. Social Hangouts allows up to 20 users to join in on the group video chat and seems to be Facebook's way of keeping the competition alive with Google Plus.
If you would like to try out the app, click on the link below:
Integrate Facebook and Twitter into Google+
Not long ago, I wrote an article about integrating Facebook and Twitter into Google+. However it seems there is another extension on Google Chrome which does the same thing as well, but has a much cleaner look.
The extension is called Start G+ and is only available on Google Chrome at the moment. Not only does this extension add your Facebook and Twitter stream onto your Google+ page; it also adds an extra item on the toolbar which displays your Gmail list and allows you to import your albums from Facebook onto Google Plus. It's the perfect tool for those of you who would like to stream everything in one easy place without the hassle of opening 3-4 different tabs.
Here is a step by step guide on installing the extension and importing your albums over too.
- Go to the following website:
http://startgoogleplus.com
- Follow the step by step instructions:
- Get the Google Chrome Extension (Download Extension)
- Sign in with your Google+ account
- Sign in with your Facebook account
- Click on "Facebook to Google+" on step 3
After following these two steps, it will show you a pop-up message advising you that you are about to send photos from Facebook to Google Plus. You will have the option of syncing all albums or send a specific album over. After you have selected your option, click on Next Step.
If you chose "Sync all my albums," proceed to click "Okay, Sync" once the application has finished analyzing your albums. If you chose "Send an individual album," select which album you would like to import and click "Okay, Import Album."
After this, the extension will begin importing your albums over to Google Plus, one at a time.
Next steps is to integrate Facebook and Twitter into your Google+ stream.
If you have not already done so, download and install the Google Chrome extension here.
After you have installed it, go to your Google+ account and you will notice that the toolbar at the top has changed slightly.
On the left hand side of the toolbar, you'll notice that there is now a new tab called "Gmail." This item will be a drop down menu which will display any new emails you have in your Gmail account.
On the right hand side, you'll notice that there are three new tabs in there. On the far right is the Start G+ extension tab; this tab allows you to enable/disable the features that come with the extension. Next to it is the Facebook and Twitter tabs where you will be able to authenticate your accounts and will display your notifications. When you first install the extension, you will need to click on each of those and login to your account to authenticate the extension.
Once you have completed the authentication process, give it about 5-10 minutes, then refresh your Google+ page and you will notice in your stream that your Twitter and Facebook streams have been integrated with your Google+ streams.
You will now be able to update your Twitter, Facebook and Google+ all in one place as well. As you can see at the image on the right, you will have two new toggle buttons that you can select if you would like to display the update on Facebook and Twitter.
All in all, this was a very well thought out extension and would be very useful to those users who are sick of having to go to different tabs just to keep in touch with your friends and family.
Please do leave a comment on what you think of this extension as well.
How to integrate Facebook and Twitter into Google Plus
So shortly after writing my last post on updating your Facebook status from Google+, I came across another handy tool which integrates both Facebook and Twitter into your Google Plus account!
In order to do this, you would need either Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox or Internet Explorer.
They're both quite simple to install add-ons and integrate with Google+ seamlessly.
First we'll start with Google+ Tweet
- Download the add-on here.
- Install the add-on
- Restart your web browser
- Login to Google Plus
- Click on the Twitter icon next to the Google+ logo at the top
- Click on the "Sign in with Twitter" button
- Login with your Twitter credentials and click Authorize App
- Login to Google+ again and click on the Twitter icon
- Click on the Go button under the "Sign in with Twitter" button
Then you're done. You will now see all your Twitter streams posted in here as well!
Next up is Google+ Facebook
- Download the add-on here
- Install the add-on and restart your browser after that
- Login to Google+
- Click on the Facebook icon next to the Google+ logo at the top
- Click on the Connect with Facebook button
- Login with your Facebook credentials and click on "Allow"
- Refresh your Google+ page and click on the Facebook icon again
There you have it! Facebook has now been integrated into Google+ as well!
How to update Google+ and Facebook at the same time
So you've decided to move over to Google+, but you're still not over with your Facebook relationship?
Well, we have a simple solution for you. If you would like to update your Google+ status, and Facebook status at the same time, it is perfectly easy to do.
Follow the guide below and you will be up and running in no time!
Step one:
Browse to your Mobile Facebook page and with your Facebook credentials. In there you will see a section called "Upload via Email" like the image below.
Notice the area that is highlighted in red? That is your own personalized upload email that you can use to update your Facebook status or send photos to via email to your profile. Take note of that email address.
Step two:
Getting Rid of Facebook Chat Sidebar
So most of you Facebook users would've noticed the new chat sidebar. Most of you also hate it since it doesn't allow you to scroll through your list of friends online as yet.
Hopefully Facebook will update it soon with a way for users to scroll through it properly inside Facebook.
If you are not a fan of it, and would like to get rid of it temporarily, you can actually hide it.
If you look next to the Options button on the bottom right, you can see the option to "Hide Sidebar" button.
Once you hide the sidebar, your chat will appear on the left sidebar like the image below. Then, when you see someone you want to talk to, just click on one of their names.

After hiding sidebar
As of yet, there are no scripts or add-ons available to revert the Facebook Chat to its old version, however if there is, I will update this post as soon as it is made available!
Update @ 29/07 - 3.30PM: Google Chrome users can now move back to the old sidebar chat completely, by installing this extension.

Google+ Cheat Sheet
So I came across a little cheat sheet for those of you who would like to use Google+ but have no idea how some of the functions would work.
The cheat sheet was created by Simon Laustsen who is still updating it more and more as well. On his page, he offers a lot of handy tips on using Google+ and ways you can get around issues such as using different languages and changing the style of Google+.
Here is an image of the cheat sheet:

If you don't understand English, not a problem! It has already been translated into many different languages too.

![facebook-logo[1] facebook-logo[1]](http://localtech.gidblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/facebook-logo1-300x281.jpg)
After spending hours last night looking for a plugin that would work well with WordPress comments, I finally found one that does it all!
It integrates WordPress, Facebook, Twitter, Google, OpenID, Yahoo and Disqus all into one, and allows those users to make comments on your WordPress blog! The great thing about it, is that it requires minimal effort for the installation!
If you were to scroll down, you would see the new comments section where you are able to connect your accounts with WordPress. Here's a screenshot if you're too lazy:
As you can see, users who are not logged in are able to choose from one of the items above. Basically the software is called
