Hey, I'm just a mom and rather helpless at fixing computers. I tried changing the language and no go; I am not finding my English dictionary in the disabled list, etc. I would like to try to use Lance's fix, but I need a step-by-step on how to do it (Rename the “HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Shared Tools\Proofing Tools\1.0″ to zz1.0.

I’ve also disabled IPV6, and even gone so far as to open command prompt and run NETSH commands such as Delete Arpcache, (I I DE AR) and Reset the ResetLog.txt (I I R R) which always have fixed issues of slowness and lack of high-level connectivity while still having an TCP/IP level connection in the past.

Try doing this.

Ctrl + Alt + Del - This will bring up the task manager.

Click File -> New Task (Run)

Type "explorer.exe" and hit OK. See if your Start menu comes up.

If not, try accessing the computer in Safe Mode.

I got to the step where it says, "If you are not locked out yet go to the following location in your computer.

    * Click on Start"

This would be fine, however I have no idea how to get to the start menu. It isn't there in the left bottom corner and it hasn't been since I've acquired this problem. I've been accessing all my files through my email. In other words, how do I get into the start menu and on to accessories and so on?
